Intensive General English for Adults in England

Classes in General English run from the beginning of September to the end of May. We offer 22.5 hours of classroom English tuition per week to adult mini groups. Please note that these English courses are designed for groups of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 adults who have a similar level of English. We can only accept individuals when their chosen dates coincide with those of another English course mini group. For adult individuals whose chosen dates do not coincide with one of our mini groups, we are pleased to recommend one of our excellent partner schools in the Exeter area.

Intensive General english courses in Exeter cover all four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Participants gain free access to our resource centre and IT suite. Mini groups may also wish to organise a specific social programme with one of our experienced and informative guides. If you want to plan your own English language holiday with your mini group, we will be pleased to tailor a course to your special needs.

IPC Junior Vacation English Courses in England

IPC offers 2, 3 and 4 weeks English language courses in England for students aged 12 - 17*. We select our English Teachers and Activity Leaders very carefully to ensure that these courses combine an effective English language learning experience with a memorable holiday. This is a chance to improve your English, to make friends from all over the world, and to experience the English way of life. * - please note that we will consider the applications of students aged under 12 for students with a reasonable level of English and experience of independent travel. ? All activities led by IPC Activity Leaders in a ration of 1:15 other than free afternoon Note: airport transfers are included in course fees when students arrive in time to meet IPC coaches for transfer to Exeter. English Courses for school groups in England

Many schools include a study tour to England in their academic calendar. IPC works with school groups (students aged 12 - 19) throughout the year and tailors each English course to the needs of the group leader. Most courses are of one week, two or three weeks’ duration. The detailed English course content will be negotiated with the group leader in advance. Additional information English courses for school groups combine English language development with preparation for project work to be undertaken in the local community - providing many opportunities for language practice in real situations. ENGLISH TEACHER TRAINING COURSES IN ENGLAND

This grant will normally cover your flights, travel expenses and your IPC English course fee (which includes the English course itself and all accommodation and travel costs). Creative Methodology in the Classroom - We are pleased to welcome back Sheelagh Deller for 2 one week Easter courses and a 2 week summer English course at IPC. The English courses will focus on ways of creating interesting and productive lessons which don't not take too much preparation, but challenge and encourage the learners to continue to learn. There will also be many activities designed to update your English. Course Dates; April 2nd - April 8th 2006 (1 week course), April 9th - April 15th 2006 (1 week course), 20th August - 2nd September 2006 (2 week course) Developing Oral Fluency in the English Language Classroom (Primary/Secondary) - explores techniques to motivate and encourage secondary level English learners to use the language as a tool for real communication. Language development concentrates on oral fluency and colloquial English. Methodology concentrates on practical ideas for teaching either Secondary level students (aged 11 - 19 years), or Primary level students (aged 4 - 11 years). Participants are invited to reflect upon aspects of the English language classroom. British Institutions, Language and Culture - combines personal English language development with an introduction to British institutions - newspapers and their role in British Society, government, the legal system and the educational system. Organised visits may include the Houses of Parliament, the local press, the Magistrate’s or Crown Court, County Hall,( the seat of local government), and excursions to places of historic or geographic interest. Enrol for this course Drama Techniques for the English Language Classroom - introduces participants to various drama techniques to use in the English classroom to encourage young English learners to experiment with spoken English in an imaginative and personal way. Language development concentrates on oral fluency and colloquial English. Enrol for this course Practical Ideas for the teaching of English Literature in the Classroom - deals with the English language of literary texts, how literature relates to one’s own life and culture, interactive and communicative ways of teaching English literature, and evaluating and trialling materials for teaching language through literature. Morning sessions focus on personal English language development; afternoon sessions include ideas for practising teachers of English Literature to use in their classrooms. Enrol for this course English As A Working Language - for teachers of subjects other than English who may have to teach their own subject in English, this course includes one day’s observation in a local secondary school, term time and school timetables permitting. Morning sessions concentrate on personal English language development, afternoon sessions on subject specific input. Enrol for this course Creative Writing in the English Classroom - combines personal English language development with techniques to aid teachers’ creativity and practical ideas to use with pupils in the classroom. Participants consider the role of creative writing in the English classroom and the integration of writing with speaking skills.

Our 2 week courses are likely to appeal to the more mature learner who is looking to combine conversational English classes with guided excursions. English Language development work focuses on the spoken English language, colloquial English, intonation and phonology patterns and vocabulary. Each course comprises 30 hours of personal language development (10 x 3 hour sessions), 8 half -day guided tours, 2 full day weekend excursions and 2 free afternoons. English Language, Literature and Creative Writing -. The aim of this course is to bring English literature to life and to visit places featuring in English literary works (Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, John Fowles, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Charles Dickens, Conan Doyle amongst others). The outstanding natural beauty of the area provides inspiration for the creative writing element of this course.

IPC Work Experience in England

IPC works with Devon County Council, the Conseil General du Calvados and colleges using the EU's Leonardo funding route to provide work placements for individuals and groups of students. All placements are undertaken on the basis that they are unpaid. Our Work Experience Placement Officer will find you a placement in Exeter England and we will organise your English host family accommodation. Placements can be from one to three months’ duration, depending upon the time of year.
