All of our Teacher Training courses include a programme of excursions which we consider to be an integral part of your course with IPC. Roger Watson, our Senior Guide, has been working with teachers' groups for many years. Roger takes pride in ensuring that you will see the most impressive sights that our region has to offer.

"Roger, I love him. Everybody in the world has to meet with him and be in his trips. They were wonderful."
Sinan Akkok, Turkish Primary School Teacher

Town Tour

All courses begin with a tour of Exeter - usually on the Monday afternoon of your first week. Our guide will meet you and give you some background information about Exeter before heading out into the city. A guided walk of approximately 2 hours includes entry to our beautiful Cathedral and an introduction to the most significant sites of Exeter. At the end of the tour our guide will make sure you take the correct bus home!

Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor National Park is one of the largest areas of natural parkland in the UK. It is a wonderful escape from the hurly burly of everyday modern living. This is a chance to enjoy the simple pleasure of nature at her wildest. You might bump into a Dartmoor pony on your trip. If the weather is suitable you will walk from Hound Tor to Haytor, a walk of around 4km, taking in some of the most impressive scenery. If rain should fall, you will visit the village of Widecombe in the Moor, famous for its annual Widecombe Fair and its place in Devon Folklore.

Tintagel and Boscastle

On the middle Saturday of your course, we will be hoping to take you to North Cornwall to the legendary birthplace of King Arthur, Tintagel Castle. Come rain or shine, the breathtaking scenery and heady mix of mystery and history make this an excursion that we hope you will remember forever.

South Devon - Dartington and Dartmouth

This three part excursion (weather permitting) usually takes place on the second Wednesday of your course and includes stops at Dartington Hall and Gardens, Blackpool Sands and the estuary-side town of Dartmouth. You will discover the unusual and captivating story of Dartington Hall and enjoy the breathtaking coastal scenery of South Devon. A short stop at the idyllic Blackpool Sands and then it's back on the bus and into Dartmouth. The Pilgrim Fathers set sail from Dartmouth, heading out into dark, dangerous seas and the new world beyond. For Fish and Chips you could do no better than 'Rockfish'!
