Accommodation with Homestay Hosts

Students on the IPC Exeter Junior Summer School stay with carefully selected homestay hosts in Exeter, giving them the opportunity to experience everyday life in a British home while practising English outside the classroom.

Safeguarding and Student Welfare

The safety and wellbeing of students is our highest priority. All Homestay Hosts are carefully selected following our safeguarding procedures. Every host must complete an Enhanced DBS check, a home inspection, and a suitability assessment. Accommodation is monitored throughout each student’s stay by our Accommodation and Welfare Team.

Who are the Homestay Hosts?

Our hosts are a mix of young families, families whose children have left home, mature couples and single people who enjoy supporting young international students and helping them feel safe and comfortable in the UK.

Will my child be met on arrival?

Yes. Students are welcomed on arrival in Exeter and introduced to their Homestay Host. For students arriving at Bristol Airport, an airport meeting service may be available upon request and at additional cost. Hosts also help students arrive safely at school on their first day and show them how to travel to and from school by bus.

What accommodation can students expect?

Homestay Hosts provide a clean, warm and comfortable home environment. Students will have a suitable bedroom with enough space, appropriate sleeping arrangements, and access to bathroom and washing facilities.Bed linen and towels are provided, and laundry arrangements are available for longer stays.
To ensure good supervision, no Homestay Host accommodates more than four students at the same time.

What meals are included?

Breakfast before school, a packed lunch, and an evening meal. Meals are typical British home cooking. Dietary requirements and preferences are always considered.

Will my child share a room?

Students may share a room with a friend travelling with them or with another student of a different nationality. We encourage mixed nationalities where possible to help students practise English and experience different cultures.

How do students travel to and from school?

Exeter is a safe and easy city for young learners.
Students usually travel by public bus using the travel pass included in the programme. Most journeys take no more than 45 minutes. After evening activities, students who cannot walk safely home, or who are too young to travel alone, are collected by their Homestay Host.

How are students matched with Homestay Hosts?

Before arrival, all students complete an accommodation profile. This helps our Accommodation Team match students with suitable hosts based on age, interests, preferences and individual welfare needs.
Placements are monitored throughout the programme, and support is always available if any concerns arise.
